Chiropractic Adjustments

Diversified technique:

Diversified technique employs manually applied chiropractic adjustments to the spine and pelvis that entail quick, shallow thrusts that usually result in popping noises. As the name implies, the diversified technique can be used to treat many of the joints in the body.

A variation of the diversified technique uses a special table with several segments called drop pieces. These segments can be elevated a fraction of an inch, so when the thrust is delivered, the table will drop. The drop pieces assist the adjustment while minimizing the force applied. A popping noise in the joint may or may not occur.

Flexion-Distraction:

Flexion-distraction involves the use of a specialized table that gently distracts vertebral segments and stretches the structures in the lumbar spine. Dr. Kirkemo and Dr. Monaghan can isolate the area of disc involvement while slightly flexing the spine. This procedure is effective with minimal discomfort even if the patient has significant symptoms.

Flexion-distraction opens the space where the nerve exits the boney structures of the spine allowing the disc to ease away from the nerve. The result may be the relief of pain in the low back and legs.

Activator Methods:

Activator Methods™ utilizes a hand-held instrument referred to as an Activator. This instrument delivers a precise adjustment with consistent velocity. The Activator is particularly useful in treating the smaller joints of the hands and feet. Activator Methods™ is also a good alternative for patients with osteoporosis, advanced arthritis, and for those patients who would prefer a more gentle adjustment.

Physiotherapies

Computer controlled traction/ decompression therapy:

Computer-controlled traction/ decompression therapy is a non-surgical procedure that effectively treats neck and back pain as well as associated pain in the extremities. Traction therapy effectively relieves pain associated with disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, and posterior facet syndromes due to decompression of spinal discs and facet joints.

Interferential Current

Interferential current therapy is a treatment to aid the relief of pain and the promotion of soft-tissue healing. Comfortable electrical impulses are introduced into areas of pain. This stimulation induces the body to secrete endorphins, which are the body's natural pain-killers, increases blood flow to help clear away chemical by-products of pain, and stimulates muscle contraction to reduce spasm. Most patients find interferential therapy to be very pleasant and beneficial. Ligament sprains, muscle strains and spasms respond well to interferential current therapy

Ultrasound

Therapeutic ultrasound uses sound waves to produce deep heat or mechanical stimulation of the soft tissues in the body. Ultrasound may be used to stimulate blood flow, and decrease pain, stiffness, and spasm. Ultrasound may be used in conjunction with interferential stimulation.

Graston/SASTM for Myofascial Release

Graston/SASTM technique utilizes hand held tools to facilitate the easing of myofascial pain syndromes. These tools have roots in the ancient Gua Sha techniques. First heat is applied to increase the pliability of soft tissue. Dr. Kirkemo and Dr. Monaghan then apply the Graston/SASTM techniques with the tools to break up adhesions and allow for tissue remodeling. Cold is applied afterward to control inflammation. The result is restoration of mobility and restored function in the muscles.
